Talk On Use of Machine Learning IN

High Energy Physics (HEP)

Abstract: Experimental particle physics is the original "big data" science, and machine learning techniques are an integral part of extracting results from the data. In this talk, I will give a short overview of experimental particle physics and how data is collected - which will set the stage for talking about how and why machine learning in general (and neural networks in particular) are an important tool. I will give examples of how deep neural networks, generative neural networks, and dimensionality reduction algorithms aid in extracting good science from the data. Throughout the talk, I will focus primarily on the work being done in IISER Pune.
